Cure for a bad mood?

I had a bit of a mind mapping session today about the odd bits of inspiration that are floating about for me at the moment. I was reading the wonderfully inspirational first book of my bud Niall Doherty, Disrupting the Rabblement (I highly recommend it) but as I was at work, I didn’t have chance to get my blog on. So here I am and I can’t for the life remember what inspiration I wanted to write about.

Instead of trying hard to be interesting or witty or maybe even insightful, I thought I’d write about the things I love and some things that bring me joy. A positive thing for this Thursday evening!

Plus I woke up totally on the wrong side of the bed this morning and I’m determined to see this day end more positively than when I found it.

As it’s playing in the background, I’ll start with:

Adele’s version of Love Song. I usually dislike covers if I like the original and I enjoy The Cure but it’s Adele’s is a gorgeous version. Whilst on the topic of covers I’ll include Stronger by 30 Seconds to Mars.

Rugby. And if I’m being honest, the physique of rugby players. I have a pulse, sorry!

Getting wrapped up and going for a walk on a cold crisp day when the sun is shining and my thighs sting because it’s so cold.

Sitting in front of an open fire after that walk.

Advocaat. It’s an alcoholic liqueur made from eggs but really is quite yummy. I love a good Snow Ball (Christmassy cocktail adding lemonade, a splash of lime and vodka if you’re feeling fruity).

Classical music. Apparently liking classical music signifies old age but personally I don’t see how loving a piece of music that has been loved for centuries, can mean that I’m old.

Dance. Ballroom, latin, the funky chicken. It just makes me feel so blinking good. Why is that? I do love tango. Uh! The sensuality!

Snuggling and smooching with the Smelly Boy. I also (never thought I would) love speaking with him in our stupid childish voices. And the way that he calls me a silly sausage. It’s brilliant, possibly only to me but I’m smiling.

Knowing that he’s seen me at my worst and he loves me. He loves us. It rocks.

Seeing that people have read my blogs especially in far flung countries and continents! I love it even more when they go out of their way to tell me that they’ve enjoyed reading them (thank you Lindsey).

Catching up with good friends and giggling until we hurt.

Christmas. It has no religious connotation for me but I love it. I can’t put my finger on it. Being around loved ones, feeling happy, laughing, relaxing, having great food. It makes me feel elated and emotional. Remembering how I felt as a kid. I hear certain pieces of festive music and can be in tears. Good tears of course. Now this could cause controversy, where applicable what’s your favourite Christmas film?

It’s a Wonderful Life. If you’ve never seen it, you’re missing out. It makes me so sad at the beginning but so happy to be human when I see George’s perspective change.

Being in old churches and carol services. Once again, nothing to do with religion but for some reason I feel comfortable in a lot of them. Maybe it’s because they’re old and the architecture is usually beautiful (I like old buildings) but I tend to feel peaceful. And I also feel emotional and struggle to fight tears when I listen to carols. There’s something so powerful about the a choir singing.

Seeing people stand up for others. I can’t stand injustice and it makes me happy to be alive when I see people conscious of others and trying to make the world a better place.

Talking about human nature.

The thought that one day I could play my part in creating a life, help it develop and then give birth to it. That completely blows my mind.

Making someone’s day better.

Someone telling me that I’ve made their day better.

Being given recognition for a job well done.

The fact that I’m as soppy and romantic as my mum (in fact at times worse but don’t tell her).

I’m massively motivated and driven, supported of course by Smelly Boy and I’m started to see positive movement from my business.

The quote by Marianne Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?“. Yes lady!

My boobs. Yes I said that but they’re pretty awesome considering I’m quite slim and it’s not being big-headed, it’s appreciating my body.

Stately homes. I love the sense of history and grandeur and romance.

Classic novels by gutsy women for example Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. I LOVE that the women who wrote them were totally pioneering and fought to be successful in a world where woman’s main function was to be owned and to make babies. This also tends to link with the previous comment. They quite often feature big old houses and romantic ‘will they won’t they?’s where the man loves the woman for all her strength of character which to lesser men would render them insufferable.

Little people (children not that I don’t love people who are vertically challenged),especially little people to whom I’m related. They’re so funny and rather adorable!

Food.

Travel.

Speaking a different language, well two of them, French and Spanish.

Now this is only a small insight into the things I love but to be honest, it’s a really fun exercise. Plus it’s put me in a good mood.

Got anything to add to the list?

Laughing till your face hurts and your tummy aches so much you can’t breath…….raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens ;0)…..sarcasm….a really good cup of tea that you didn’t make yourself…..childrens realism usually accompanied by something totally inappropriate and out of context, which can also include repeating stuff you really wish
they hadn’t……making grumpy people smile by
the jedi mind trick of smiling at them…..opening a fresh box of cereal…..sleeping…..comfortabke silences

    • You’re all over the happiness Kittens!
I think, given the day, that it’s worth mentioning when your child realises that they can open the advent calendar and as such has permission to get excited about a certain festive season. Even if she is nearly 27!
